inkling reviewed Prosperity by Alexis Hall
Messy mix of kissy and steampunk
3 stars
Kissy books are Hall's style. This goes pretty far in that direction and that isn't my milieu so can't judge the longings of the heart and passion that follows, beyond that it draws the focus away from the parts that I do find interesting.
As does the main character. He is a guttersnipe and we get to hear this story in his voice. He is vulgar, jealous, and larcenous but, perhaps due to this journey, rather sweet and loyal.
There be airships with a very steampunk sort of magic that harkens to dark dead realms and the beauty of the spheres. I find the mythology and unique characters very intriguing, and fortunately Hall follows this up with more background into this world and some of the characters that populate it in further volumes.
